THE
PASSING OF THE TORCH
Ron and Liz's final Message:
Fellow
Tribesmen:
"To every thing there is a season." This
was the theme of our first Camp sermon, given in 1968 on Visiting Day. The
words still ring true, as we tell you tonight of a new direction for Camp
Kawaga.
Liz and I will be retiring at the end of this summer.
We will be turning over the reins to a Kawaga family, the four Fisher
brothers of Cincinnati. Bob, Michael, Marc, and Duke have all grown up
here at Kawaga. They will bring youth, energy, enthusiasm, and dedication
to the continuation of Camp. The Directorship will be assumed by an eminently
well-qualified and long time friend of Kawaga, Mr. Hollis Herrell, with Duke
Fisher as Associate Director and Greg Jenks at his familiar post of Program
Director.
Holly is currently a Vice Principal at Pewaukee High
School in Wisconsin. Many of you will remember his tenure as Program
Director at Kawaga, stretching back to his first camp job as Waterfront
Director. Both of Holly's sons grew up at Camp, and worked here as
counselors. He brings a wealth of experience as a father, camp counselor,
teacher, and administrator to his new position.
We leave our eighteen year tenure at Kawaga filled with
an overwhelming gratitude for the love and loyalty of the hundreds of boys who
will always be our Kawaga family. We have full confidence that this
transition in Kawaga's leadership is consistent with the goals set down 73 years
ago by the founders, Dr. and Mrs. B.C. Ehrenreich and their son Lou. We
hope and trust that Holly, Duke, and the Fishers will also have the benefit of
your loyalty and support.
You men of the 1986 Kawaga Nation will always have a
very special place in our hearts for you represent, for Liz and I, all of the
men and boys of Kawaga. We will carry memories of you with us, as we hope
you will carry the Kawaga Ideal, forever.
Everybody in? Everybody All Right? Good Night, Fellas!
